The Friends of The Yehudi Menuhin School

The Friends provide our pupils with a highly supportive audience; they are a local and familiar group of encouraging patrons who share the love of music performed by talented young musicians. Many of our Friends enjoy following the journey of our pupils as they progress through the School and into the wider world as professional musicians.

The Friends also support our pupils financially in various different ways, whether through student bursaries for pupils who struggle to afford the fees, through student aid which helps students attend holiday courses with specialist teachers, or by funding projects which directly enhance the students’ lives.

How your annual Friends membership fee supports our School and its pupils

Student Bursaries

We are very grateful that The Department for Education’s Music and Dance scheme provide many of our pupils with the financial support they need to study at the School. Unfortunately overseas pupils simply do not qualify for this funding until they have been at the School for seven terms, resulting in those pupils struggling to fund this period of study themselves.

Student Aid

Student Aid provides our pupils with support unrelated to bursary funding but focuses on their all-round development and welfare. Our pupils greatly benefit from holiday courses with specialist teachers and often require funding towards the cost.

Student Life

The Friends also raise money for projects, both large and small, which directly benefit the life of students. These may enhance their musical life (previous gifts include the Steinway grand piano and chamber organ in The Menuhin Hall), their academic studies, or their day-to-day experience around the School – from swings to minibuses to audio visual equipment. The Friends are currently hoping to raise sufficient funds to sponsor one of the practice rooms within the new Music Studios.
