AIMS

The vitality and very high quality of music-making among both pupils and teachers is testimony to the aim of providing a favourable environment for the blossoming of each young person. It is a broad aim which encompasses as much the musical expression as the technical base; the intuitive as much as the analytical process; the contemporary as much as the traditional; and the spontaneous as much as the studied and prepared.’

The School aims to develop the musical potential of gifted young people regardless of race, creed or financial background both for their own fulfilment and for the benefit and enrichment of others, within an academic environment that supports and develops their social, emotional, aesthetic and physical needs.

At the same time the School aims to provide a broad education within an open community in which each individual can fully develop intellectual, artistic and social skills. We believe that it is important for the pupils to have a sound academic education and that they should sit for GCSE and A level examinations. This ensures that options are always open for pupils to change their career choice should unforeseen circumstances make a change necessary.

Pupils leave the School not only as dedicated musicians who will use their music to inspire and enrich the lives of others but also as friendly, thinking individuals well equipped to contribute fully to the international community.

The most blessed and privileged of all callings is that of the musician, who acts as interpreter, inspirer, healer, teacher, consoler and, above all, as a humble servant. These are the human roles I would endeavour to cultivate among my beloved group of young students who enrich the school not only with their burgeoning talents but with the great diversity of their cultural backgrounds.
